COURSE IN SURGICAL ANATOMY OF THE ORAL CAVITY
Cremona, May 24–25, 2025

Course objective

The dissection anatomy course of the oral cavity aims to provide students with the main anatomical concepts of the oral region and is oriented, in terms of method and content, to promote the learning of practical skills that can be immediately applied in clinical practice.
The course is organized into two sessions: a theoretical part with lectures and a practical part with dissection anatomy exercises on fresh-frozen cadaver specimens.
One head will be available for every two participants.
The instructors are dentists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons with many years of experience.

Scientific management

Prof. Francesco Grecchi

Former head of the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the Galeazzi Institute in Milan, Dr. Francesco Grecchi specializes in
orthognathic, dysmorphic, reconstructive, and pre-prosthetic surgery. Co-author of over 100 publications in national
and international journals, Dr. Grecchi is the creator of One Step Oral Rehabilitation, an innovative technique for maxillary reconstruction
with implant-prosthetic rehabilitation.

Faculty and Tutors

Tutor: Dr. Ramon Boninsegna

Graduated with honors from the University of Brescia, he specialized in Odontostomatological Surgery at the University of Milan and obtained a PhD in Morphological Sciences. He is an adjunct professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Brescia, where he teaches “Anatomy of the Stomatognathic System.” He is a founding member of the Italian Society of Specialists in Odontostomatological and Oral Surgery (SISCOO) and a founding member of the Italian Society for the Study of Orofacial Pain (SISDO). He is co-author of over 20 publications in national and international journals.

 

Tutor: Dr. Rosario Acampora

Specialized in “Dental Surgery” at the University of Reims in France. Former adjunct professor of Gnathology in Implant Prosthetics at the University of Bari. He specialized in reconstructive periodontal surgery at the University of Naples Federico II. He is the director of the implant prosthetics surgery department at the ARF Dental Center in Naples. He is a member of ANDI and AIOP, author of various scientific publications in national and international journals, and a speaker at various national and international conferences.

 

Tutor: Dr. Alessio Acquadro

He graduated in 2017 from the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio. Since 2018, he has been working as a freelancer at his offices in Turin and Aosta. In 2023, he took on the role of Medical Director at the Osservatorio Odontoiatrico clinic at the COI headquarters within the Dental School of Turin. He is a member of important associations such as SIPRO ITI ICP and AIOP. In 2021, he won the “Major Educational Award 2020/2021.” He collaborates with the University of Ferrara in teaching prosthetic technologies under Professor Catapano.

 

Tutor: Dr. Massimo Bellia

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Palermo, he specialized in Maxillofacial Surgery and subsequently specialized in oral implant prosthetics. Since 1993, he has been a first-level manager and head of the Periodontology and Prosthetics departments at the “Spedali Civili di Brescia” Hospital.

 

Tutor: Dr. Francesco La Via

Graduated in 2016 from the University of Brescia, he works at the Martina Dental Clinic in Ospitaletto (BS). He mainly deals with prosthetics and implant surgery, with a particular focus on the computer-guided approach. He has always been passionate about bone reconstruction techniques, a student of Dr. Mauro Merli’s school, attending numerous courses on the subject and currently routinely performing bone regeneration procedures in his practice.

 

Tutor: Dr. Luca Ortensi

Formerly an adjunct professor in the Department of Dentistry at the University of Catania, UNICT, in the Prosthetics course in 2016/2022. Adjunct professor for the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Ferrara, UNIFE, in the Prosthetics course in 2021/2023. Graduated in dentistry and dental prosthetics in 1993 from the University of Bologna. He is a member of several CAO commissions at the Order of Physicians of Bologna. Former member of the CAO and the Council of the Order of Physicians of Bologna.

THEORETICAL PARTSaturday, May 24

2:30 p.m. Registration of participants and introduction

Anatomy of the oral cavity and jaws

Introduction to embryology and craniofacial growth.
Vascularization, innervation, and lymphatic drainage of the jaw regions.

Anatomical basics relevant to implant surgery.
Upper jaw:
Nasal fossae – Infraorbital nerve – Greater palatine artery – Maxillary sinus
Lower jaw:
Facial artery – Mental foramen – Inferior alveolar nerve – Lingual nerve

8:00 p.m. Course dinner

PRACTICAL PART – Sunday, May 25
from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• Identification of areas of particular vascular and nerve risk.
• Access incisions to the edentulous maxilla, frontal and lateral regions.
• Dissection of the maxillary sinus and the tuberosity and pterygoid regions.
• Dissection of the lower orbital-palpebral region and zygoma.

1:00 p.m. Lunch

• Incisions for access to the intraoral mandibular regions.
• Isolation of the lingual nerve.
• Isolation of the lower alveolar emergence.
• Bone harvesting from the chin and ramus and apposition grafting.
• Isolation and lateralization of the alveolar nerve.
• Split crest.

7:00 p.m. Course conclusion with completion of ECM questionnaires
and delivery of certificates.

The course is reserved for 18 maxillofacial specialists or residents, dentists, and
oral surgeons.
